What Is It:
This year was the first that I was fortunate enough to attend GenCon, which was ah-mazing! Totally loved it.
One of the highlights of the event was The Glitter Guild show we went to on Friday night. Our friends who had been to GenCon before knew all about it, so we took their advice and bought tickets. We were so glad we did!
The Glitter Guild is a burlesque show. Yes, it's where women (and men) take off their clothes to music. But it's a NERD burlesque show. That is, each of the performers has a nerdy theme to their performance. And, if you don't know, burlesque is not just about getting naked. There are strong elements of humor, theme, and performance involved, so it's not just stripping.
The performers at the show don't get totally naked. They always end up with at least a g-string and some pasties. The pictures below are the safe-for-most-work ones. You'll have to go to a show to get the full effect, but I think you can get the gist from these.

Miss Pixie, the GenCon 2015 hostess
Miss Pixie was the hostess / emcee for the show and she was totally hilarious! Speaking with a Russian accent and drinking from a GIANT martini, her style was irreverent in the best possible way. Her comments at the beginning, before each performance and at the end, were worth the price of admission alone.
Ray Gunn as the Jester at GenCon 2015
The show truly had something for everyone, and that means both female and male performances. This is one of about three men who performed and one of my favorites overall!
Maggie Missile as Thor at GenCon 2015
One of the great elements of burlesque in general, and this show in particular, is how body-positive it is. There were performers of all shape and sizes, and they all performed with grace, sexiness, and confidence that was wonderful to see.
Hazel Hellbender as Harry Potter at GenCon 2015
"Harry Potter" here drank a polyjuice potion that had a little "accidental" glitter in it, and was rather disconcerted to find herself stripping! Another favorite performance here.
Bazuka Joe as Kid Icarus at GenCon 2015
Some of the themes were a little more classical. Kid Icarus, here, is one fine example. There was also a modern Medusa performance.
Kae from AI Circus as Princess Leia at GenCon 2015
Kae didn't get quite as naked as the others, but her amazing ring performance made that all okay. She was a guest performer who usually performs with the Acrobatica Infiniti.
Miss Pussykatt as Kitana at GenCon 2015
Several of the performers displayed wonderful athleticism as well as beauty and sex appeal.
Jeez Loueez as Rufio at GenCon 2015
This performer (another favorite) totally captured the attitude of Rufio from the movie Hook in her fun performance!
There were a bunch more performances than shown here. I think the entire show was about two hours, but it sped by because we were having so much fun.
The Glitter Guild is a highly recommended performance (as long as you are prepared for a little R-rated action). They perform every year at GenCon and also other conventions and geeky events around the country. If you are looking for a little adult level geeky fun, definitely go see The Glitter Guild!
